Here is a post by Lord_ Xorn I have tried it and it works witn win 7 64 bit. But first install MOO2 on a computer were it runs and copy the entire micropose directory to the program files (x86) directory. Then copy the dplayx.dll file from the windows\sys WOW64 directory and renamed it dplay.dll and put it back in the sys WOW64 directory (be sure the dplayx.dll file is still there) or if you have the 32 bit version it should be found in the system32 directory ( I am guessing, but you will need a dplay.dll) Now follow Lord_ Xorn/s instructions Found this great post about getting MOO2 to run in Windows 7, and even with the compatibility enabled it still has a graphics palette problem. The reason is because of Windows explorer, and to fix the problem you need to disable explorer. I know this can be a little too much for some, there is an easier way. Simply create a notepad file on your desktop, and paste the following. ( If you have 32-bit version of Windows 7.) TASKKILL / F / IM explorer.exe cd C:\ Program Files \ Microprose\ Orion2 start /w C:\ Program Files \ Microprose\ Orion2\ Orion95.exe start C:\ Windows\explorer.exe ( Copy and paste below if you have 64-bit) TASKKILL / F / IM explorer.exe cd C:\ Program Files (x86) \ Microprose\ Orion2 start /w C:\ Program Files (x86) \ Microprose\ Orion2\ Orion95.exe start C:\ Windows\explorer.exe Make sure you rename the text file to Moo2.bat, then it will launch Moo2 and disable explorer. Moo2 plays perfectly fine this way, even without any of the compatibility enabled. The Batch file will also restore your explorer when you exit the game. Hope this helps. Old thread, I know, but I couldn't find any info on getting it to work on, so I did a bit of experimenting. Compatability mode for XP SP2 and running as administrator seems to make it work. Also, dplay.dll and dplayx.dll are both found on the MOO2 disc. Hope this helps someone!.
I know this is an old thread, just letting you know, that windows 10 allows Master of Orion 2 windows version to work flawlessly.once you install the mousefix to stop the mouse from flickering and freezing when you need to name something.i don't get any problems with running it on a 64- Bit OS, which is awesome. Also, when it comes to the Homeworld Remastered Collection, while the games in general are good and fun to play.when i play against friends, the AI however blatantly cheats, i know all AI cheat in some way to be challenging, but this game totally breaks majority of the rules that we are forced to follow, like ship limits, they can have more then 5 of a ship type even though we are limited to 2-3. They even spawn a fleet that perfectly counters our fleet at the start of a mission, even if it exceeds the ship limits and they still build more.while i respect any AI that can be challenging without cheating too much, but when it cheats so blatantly, its just the developers being too freaking lazy to do any decent AI, i mean i can live with the AI having a production speed boost, but they should be limited to the same rules and they shouldn't spawn a fleet that 100% counters our own, its just totally stupid. Instead of going through all of this for our old copies of the originals. If someone buys the Preorder for MOO4, it comes with MOO1, MOO2, MOO3. Will those all work on Windows 10 64bit, with their bugs fixed and without having to use Dos Box, Hamachi or search for fixes? I remember things like the Stealth Field not working, graphics turning pink and the mouse freezing up the game. Obviously TEN isn't there anymore, so I don't expect that to work. My Dos and windows copies have disappeared over the years. I've had at least 4 purchased cds. I just desire good a working cd for my modern computer of these classic games to install simply and play. MOO1 Fan, MOO2.
